First edition, Complete in one volume. (blank), (2), (3)-359pp., 12.5cm x 19.5cm, (5" x 7 3/4"); Original elaborate gilt-stamped, decorated red cloth; some rubbing and age-toning to panels, bumping to corners, rubbing and age-toning to spine, some wear and 1/4 inch tearing to spine ends, more so on top one. One old library 1-1/4 inch diameter blind embossed stamp on front end paper.
Pages 97 to p.129 and p.169 to 192 and 337 to 359 have heavy foxing else clean, tight copy.
Overall condition would be good. 1st American Edition . Mark Hurdlestone begun as a short tale in The Lady's Magazine (Nov. 1833) Later, “The miser and his son” as a serialized novel in The Literary Garland, then into a two-volume London UK Bentley novel first edition called Mark Hurdlestone or, The Gold Worshipper. Later in 1853, this book was published by De Witt & Davenport NY. and called Mark Hurdlestone, or, The two brothers. DeWitt reprinted this a couple of times with one edition stating "Third Edition" on the title page.
