Scarce collection of letters from Lord Nelson to his mistress Lady Emma Hamilton.

“The publisher, Thomas Lovewell, went bankrupt in 1817 and was forced to put the letters up for sale. They were purchased by Croker acting on behalf of the Admiralty and Government who were anxious that they were kept out of public circulation. Harrison is often cited as the editor but my own research years ago suggests that Oliver (a servant with whom Emma had quarrelled} was the culprit - although Harrison may have been involved too.” quoted from Michael Nash, UK.

The supplement in volume II, running from page 107 on, contains letters from Lord Nelson to Miss Horatia Nelson Thomson, Miss Charlotte Nelson, letters from Alexander Davison, Esq. to Lady Hamilton, a letter from Lady Hamilton to Alexander Davison, Esq., a letter from Lady Hamilton to Viscount Sidmouth, letters from Sir William Hamilton to Lady Hamilton, and numerous letters from Sir William Hamilton to Lord Nelson, and finally a number of letters from Lord Nelson to Sir William Hamilton.
