Founded in Dublin in 1880 by James Stack Lauder, Lafayette Photography has one of the oldest histories of any photographic business in the world. The Lafayette business expanded rapidly in the 1890s with studios in Glasgow (1890), Manchester (1892), and London (1897). These photos were probably taken in 1897 when Laurier went to London to participate in the colonial conference during Queen Victoria’s Diamond Jubilee. At the time he also received a knighthood.
