Theatrical mask
Date Published: ND
Binding: No binding
Unsigned decorative theatre mask. Appears to be made from papier-mâché 14-1/2 x 13 inches.
The mask is made to fit a small face, possibly a child or woman. The colours while pastel blues, pinks, lilac and gold are very true and not 'washed out’. The inside of the mask is a bright gold colour entirely. The mask is quite detailed and delicate with a very feminine flair. The headdress extends from inside of mouth to both both sides and surrounds the entire front of the face. Very good condition.
The mask was purchased by the previous owner in Allantown near Buffalo NY about 2000. This mask was also purchased with another mask subsequently sold at auction in May 2004 as an unsigned Wladyslaw Teodor “W.T.” Benda (1873-1948) Theatrical mask titled "Young woman wearing headpiece".
