According to Howes T-191, this is one of the earliest books published in Upper Canada and is based on official documents.
"Thompson, a Scot, served in Canada in the War of 1812 and settled at Niagara as a school teacher. This work is based on official documents, periodicals and historical volumes of settled integrity, also on the Author's personal knowledge of the transactions detailed and on information from persons of unquestionable veracity." "Thompson explains the retarded appearance of the work by 'the difficulty experienced in procuring paper of a sufficiently good quality to answer the just expectations of the patrons of the work' As a sequel to publication, the Author was unfortunately imprisoned for debt."
