Many signed by Francis Winter
Francis Winter (d/c1808), an American born and local Montreal agent negotiating deeds for Alexander Elise seigniory to make a general survey of the seigniory and lay out in lots a portion of the lands bordering the St Lawrence and the Chateaugay. This task he seems to have fulfilled in the summer of 1800. Francis Winter, who bought Pew 94, and whose name is down for nine pounds, nothing more can be gathered than that they were traders connected with the North-west Company.*
According to André Larose, it can be surmised that “Ormstown” could have been chosen by his chargé d’affaires, Francis Winter, who was native to the United States.** Francis Winter (d1804 and buried by the roadside on the far he occupied west of Baker's (lot1)***.
