Sully Prudhomme was a French poet and essayist, associated with the Parnassus school of French writing in the nineteenth century. Elected to the Académie française in 1881 and esteemed as a Chevalier de la Légion d’honneur in 1895, he was the first recipient of the Nobel Prize in Literature, awarded to him in 1901.

• ALS in French to Henri Corbel (poet and journalist), Secrétaire du Comité pour le Monument dédié à Gabriel Vicaire (French poet), 29 May 1902, sends 20 francs, tells Corbel that the lines that he wants about Vicaire are not easy to write, he is suffering and besieged by many requests.

Bronze medal:

Chaplain, 1907, 70 × 59 mm, image of Prudhomme, verso has a tree and a lyre, “A | SULLY PRUDHOMME | EN SOUVENIR | DU | VINQT CINQUIEME | ANNIVERSAIRE | DE SON | ELECTION | A | L’ACADEMIE FRANCAISE | SES AMIS | SES ADMIRATEURS | 8 DECEMBRE | 1881-1906”. Jules-Clément Chaplain (1839-1909) was a French sculptor and one of its finest medallists. With Louis Oscar Roty, he helped found the Art Nouveau movement.
