• ALS addressed Dear Madam, 11 March 1871, complies with her request, regrets that her handwriting has deteriorated due to a chronic muscular weakening.

LOTHROP, Harriett (pseud. Margaret Sidney, American children’s author and publisher).

• ALS (4 pp.) to Mrs. Cathry?, pre-1892, declining a supper invitation, suggests bringing her grandchildren for a quiet play. In part: “Nothing would delight us more than to take supper with you Saturday... Mr. Lothrop is in New York, will return Friday night. So you see I cannot help but send our regrets...With great disappointment and many thanks.”

• The Wonder Garden (Boston: Houghton Mifflin Company, 1919), in jacket, green pictorial cloth, bookplate of Chalmers Hadley (American librarian and educator) on front pastedown, with an ALS to him, December 1919, re his love of flowers.

• Story-telling ballads, selected and arranged for story-telling and reading aloud and for the boys' and girls' own reading (Boston: Houghton Mifflin Company, 1920), in jacket, green cloth with slightly scuffed pictorial panel on front. With ALS (November 1920) and TLS (17 March 1946) from Olcott to Chalmers Hadley (American librarian and educator), and his bookplate, on front endpapers. Re sending an advance copy of the book to him, the flowers of Galilee in the Holy Land, avoiding the flu, Hadley should write a book about his garden, Darwin’s little book about on the growing of the vine.
