HMS Erebus was a 16-gun ironclad screw floating battery warship launched in April 19, 1856 and sold in 1884. Erebus was one of three iron-hulled armoured floating batteries ordered during the Crimean War to follow the slightly earlier wooden-hulled Aetna Class Ironclad Floating Battery. The Erebus was 186 feet long, with a breadth of beam of 50 feet and a depth of 16 feet. With the exception of being nearly as flat on the bottom as she is upon the deck.
