Letter of Joan Peveril Ward Poole (Joanie) to her father Sir Reginald Ward Edward Lane Poole, a British lawyer on Batterwood House near Port Hope letterhead. Asking her father to see Lionel Massey "who Is Vincent Massey's son" If he comes up from Balllol. One page small 4to. Dated Sept[ember]16th no year. With envelope marked personal. Circa 1935 given Lionel attended Balliol College, Oxford probably about this time and was of course away from home.

On 15 September 1959, The Honurable Vincent Massey retired and moved to and had built in the 1920's, Batterwood House, near Port Hope, Ontario with his wife, Alice, two sons, Lionel and Hart. He died on 30 December 1967 while visiting London. Following a state funeral, he was buried in an Anglican cemetery near his Port Hope home.
Joan Peveril Ward Poole (Joanie) was born 1898 in Kensington, London and is the daughter of Sir Reginald Ward Edward Lane Poole. She married Charles Arthur Aiskew Larcom, son of Lt.-Col. Sir Charles Larcom, 2nd Bt. and Jeanie Perceval, on 26 October 1935. From 26 October 1935, her married name became Larcom.
Lionel Chester Hart Massey (1916-1965) was a Canadian civil servant and dignitary, most noted for serving as Secretary to the Governor General of Canada during his father Vincent Massey's term as Governor General. He was educated at Upper Canada College and Balliol College, Oxford
