First UK edition. A Bill (as amended for the Committee) for uniting the Legislatures of the Provinces of Lower and Upper Canada. (London), The House of Commons, 1822.

Quarto, 9, [1] pages, stitched. British Parliamentary Paper #616.

[York] : Printed by Charles Fothergill, 1822

"31 July, 1922" at head of caption title. At head of title on page 9 verso: 3 Geo. IV. Sess. 1822. Scarce document. A very early Bill stating that “a joint Legislature for both Provinces would be more likely to promote their general security and prosperity than a separate Legislature for each of the said Provinces, as at the present by law established”. It is then proposed that that act be repealed by the present Act for the purpose of the joint Legislatures.

TPL 1256.

Charles Fothergill (1782-1840) was a businessman, journalist and political figure in Upper Canada. In 1822, he was appointed King's Printer and moved to York (Toronto).
