1856 Stampless cover (no content or letter) to Hon. Joseph Couchon, Toronto from PORT HOPE SP 9 1856 UC. Double broken circle, large '3' H/S in black. Backside large TORONTO SEP 10 CW (Canada West). Fine condition.
Joseph-Édouard Cauchon was a journalist, businessman, and politician in the middle years of the nineteenth-century. He held a variety of portfolios at the federal, provincial and municipal levels. In 1877 to 1882, Cauchon was appointed the third Lieutenant Governor of Manitoba, replacing the retiring Alexander Morris.
