DEDICATION: THE EDITOR unites gratitude with cheerful acknowledgments in dedicating this compilation to his PATRONS. The sympathy they have given to him under a deprivation which neither wisdom commends nor Christianity sustains is as consolatory as a restoration of the means of subsistence which a sentiment of generosity induced him to bestow for the “maintenance and support” of successors in the ministry after, not before, his death. Quoted from the book's dedication page.

Rev. Elam Rush Stimson was Church of England clergyman and was editor of the Church Herald (Toronto). He was minister from 1859 to 1864 at the Church of St. John the Evangelist, Kitchener, Waterloo Region, Ontario, Canada. He is buried in the St. George United Cemetery, St. George, Brant Co., Ontario.
