General Sir Edward Lugard GCB, PC was a British Army officer who He fought in the Afghan War in 1842, the Sikh Wars between 1845 and 1846, in the Sikh Wars between 1848, 1849, in the Indian Mutiny, in command a division at the capture of Lucknow and in the Persian Campaign in 1857. Later as Permanent Under-Secretary of State for War (1861–71) at the War Office.
