Full original leather rebacked with elaborate gilt decoration type on spine, black leather label with gilt type, 4 bands, gilt dentelle decorative border on front and back boards. Original marbled endpapers, gilt page edges. 2 leaves of plates of 4; frontispiece, Burgley House, near Stamford, repeated as plate with title Burghley Lodge on p8. Insides have some sporadic foxing more so to the first few pages including title-page and frontis illustration, offsetting, otherwise, very good+ condition.
With a long gift inscription to Miss Currer from J. Maude of Moor House, Yorkshire. Miss Currer's collection of art is described as one of the best in England and the best books, Moor House, 8th September 1838, in the inscription. A very nice copy with interesting provenance.

An earlier Burghley House history was published in 1797 titled, A history or description, general and circumstantial, of Burghley House, the seat of the Right Honorable the Earl of Exeter. Shrewsbury : Printed and sold by J. and W. Eddowes ; 1797. vii, , 205,  p but not containing any of the art catalogue reference published in this 1815 edition.
