This rare biography of François Xavier de Laval de Montigny [1623-1708], the first Bishop of Quebec (1623-1708) contains much useful information about the late 17th century history of the region. Although the terminal leaf indicates this to be the end of the first volume, only one was published.
The earliest biography of François Xavier de Laval de Montigny [1623-1708], first bishop of Quebec (1674-88) and one of the most powerful and influential figures in seventeenth century New France.
Although Sabin cites the first edition of this work, Paris, 1761, as existing in two volumes, only one volume is all that was published.
A scarce little book that Winsor says “is worth looking into, though not with the object of accepting all its statements. Frontenac is bitterly attacked, his faults magnified, and many serious charges preferred against him.”
