A collection of 75 poems ranging in time from “The Plains of Abraham” and “Death of Wolfe” to a “Song for Canada,” whose “Sons are living men, / [Her] daughters fond and fair.” “Brock,” written for the inauguration of the new monument to Sir Isaac Brock at Queenston Heights in 1859.
Sangster was a poet, civil servant, and journalist. Unofficially dubbed "Poet Laureate of Colonial Canada" and the "Father of Canadian Poetry," The Dictionary of Canadian Biography calls him "the best of the pre-confederation poets."
Included are poems on the plains of Abraham and the death of Wolfe, and one on Sir Isaac Brock, written for the inauguration of the new monument erected at Queenston Heights.
